Halong Bay 2

Brief Description
Welcome to Hanoi, where Chinese influence and French design peacefully coexist. Experience the limestone scenery that made the classic French film Indochine famous when you visit Hoa Lua and feel the full panorama of its romance while cruising on a replica steam ship for an overnight cruise on Halong Bay.
The luxury Vietnam experience continues in the Central regions. Discover how life is life in Imperial Vietnam; visiting the Citadel and past emperor’s mausoleums while cruising along the romantically named Perfume River in Hue. Continue your history lesson as you discover ancient Champa ruins at My Son and wander through 400 year old shop houses in Hoi An.
Waiting in the south is the Mekong Delta, the mouth of the dragon. You will discover Saigon, a city of contrasts where modern and ancient Asia competes openly with colonial France for your attention. Far from the city we will take you on a private and truly memorable overnight cruise through the tropical delta on Vietnamese sampan. Wake up in the Mekong Delta, slide through the boats, fruit and sweet savories to be first customer at the floating market.

A real insight into Vietnam’s outstanding heritage and dramatic scenery.
Depart your hotel this morning at 8:00 for the 2-hour drive through rural northern Vietnam to the site of Vietnam’s first capital, Hoa Lu. Visit the temples dedicated to Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang of the Dinh Dynasty (968-80), and Emperor Le Dai Hanh of the Le Dynasty (980-1009). The ancient Hoa Lu Citadel (most of which has since been destroyed) once covered an area of three square kilometers.
If time permits after visiting Hoa Lu (for the fit and healthy), take a half-hour walk up one of the surrounding limestone karst hills, the climb is rewarding with spectacular views.
In the late morning depart for Tam Coc Town for a Vietnamese lunch, along the way stop
where you wish to take photographs of local villages and the stunning landscape.
After lunch board your private sampan to either Thung Nang (visited in summer) or Trang An (visited in winter). As the boat gently slices through the water, notice the enormous limestone karsts jutting out from the green rice fields giving rise to other name, ‘Halong on Land’.

If in Hue on Thursday or Sunday mornings between 0900-1000 it is the gathering place for up to 20 Buddhist monks and nuns who gather together to pray and read aloud scriptures. This is a fascinating time and highly recommended.

Roll through Chinatown to Nhi Phu temple built in the end of 17th century by Chinese immigrants from Fukkien Province. Although the exact construction date is unknown, an inscription on the pagoda’s ancient bell dates the pagoda to pre-1765. Nhi Phu Temple is built in a “Khẩu” (gate) architectural style with an open yard in the center. Its roof is covered with tubular tiles lined with bas-relief mosaics made from broken ceramics, depicting the eight immortals of Taoism including apricot trees, orchids, bamboo and of course dragons and phoenix.

ExploreSaigon’s well-kept secret – Antiques Street (Le Cong Kieu), where genuine antiques are mixed in with genuine fakes: Aladdin oil lamps, carved wooden chests, Marelli copper fans, opium pipes, abacuses, etc. You can also find military cast-offs from the Vietnam War, and if you look hard enough, relics from the French Indochina era. Follow a typical street to reach the Beaux-Arts Museum, a superb neo-colonial building home to various modern arts. Explore the art galleries surrounding the museum, where local artists gladly display their talent.
The rest of the evening at leisure.
