The remote mountains of northwest Vietnam are home to some of South-East Asia’s most rugged terrain, beautiful scenery and colourful hill tribes. Leaving the graceful boulevards of Hanoi behind, travel to Sapa before traversing the nice mountain roads to Lai Chau, and Dien Bien Phu . Experience breathtaking mountain views and meet friendly locals along the way. If you want to get off the beaten track in Vietnam, this is the trip for you.

Night 1: Hanoi – Overnight train to Lao Cai
You are picked up at the hotel in Hanoi, transferred to Hanoi Railway Station for your night train to Lao Cai
Day 1: Lao cai – Sa pa – Hau Thao – Sao Chau villages – Sapa (13km trekking, 5 hour trekking)
Arrive in Lao Cai around 5:30 a.m. We will take 1 hour van ride uphill to the beautiful town of Sapa. The ride gives you a glimpse of the stunning vistas and impressive rice terraces. Upon arrival Sapa town, we have buffet breakfast at the hotel before traveling by car up to Sao Chua village, home of Black Hmong tribe where you start trek about 8km along the remote and quite route through beautiful mountainous area. Along the way, you will have many opportunities to enjoy the spectacular view over rice terraced and corn fields as well as experience the real things of Sapa because this area is non tourist along the way. You will take a break to have lunch at nice place along the way before trekking towards Hau Thao village where you can see people make clothes by hand and dye clothes by using indigo plant. We return by car to Sapa in the afternoon.
Day 2: Sapa – Ban Ho – Nam Toong – My Son villages – Sapa (1 hour driving, 5 hour trekking, 14km trekking)
You have breakfast at your hotel before being transferred by car around more than one hour to Ban Ho village where you can see the stunning view of Muong Bo valley and rice terraced fields. Walking about 3 km along the mountain trails to explore a house on stilts and the traditional costume and culture of Tay tribe before crossing a suspension bridge over Lave Stream. You will walk along rice terraced fields to Red Dzao village of Nam Toong. Enjoy picnic lunch at the village and then trek up and downhill to My Son village which is the home to Xapho people, the smallest ethnic group in Sapa. You stay overnight at a comfortable hotel in Sapa.
Day3: Sapa – Silver Waterfall – Love Waterfall – Ban Bo village – Phong Tho 2,5 hour driving, 9km trekking, 2 hour trekking)
You have breakfast at the hotel or local restaurant before being transferred to Silver waterfall by car which is about 12km from Sapa, here you have chance to watch the highest waterfall in Sapa, walking about 30 minutes around this waterfall before driving to Love waterfall which is locate in Hoang Lien National Park. We have a 2km walk along Golden Stream of National Park to reach Love Waterfall which is really romantic one, especially, it has natural swimming pool at the bottom so you can swim there in the summer time. After that we walk back the car to drive to Ban Bo village which is about 30km from Love Waterfall and inhabited by Laos or Lu tribe. Along the way, we will stop at Heaven Gate which is the highest point in Vietnam by road, you can get an amazing landscape from here as well as along the road to Ban Bo village. We have lunch at Binh Lu town before walking about 7km to visit the Lu and Laos tribes who are preserved from tourist and black teeth because of betel nut eating habit. This is followed we drive to Phong Tho Town to stay overnight.
Day4: Phong Tho – Lai Chau – Dien Bien Phu ( 4 hour driving, 180km driving)
After breakfast we drive about 180km to Dien Bien Phu along Nam Na valley. On the way we sop to visit Tam Duong Market (only on Tuesday) and visit the hamlets of Red Hmong tribe. We have lunch along the way and arrive at Dien Bien Phu around 2pm. You can relax at your hotel for an hour before walking to visit the local market and walk to some nearby villages of Thai tribes. You stay overnight in Dien Bien Phu town.
Day5: Dien Bien Phu
In the morning we drive to Muong Phang to visit the headquarter of General Vo Ngueyn Giap and then drive back to Pac Khoang for a boat trip on Pa Khuong Lake and visit the minority villages of Black Thai. We drive back to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon we visit Dien Bien Phu Museum, A1 hill, Dien Bien Phu Cemetery, the bunker headquarters of French Commander Colonel Christian de Castries and the Memorial dedicated to French soldiers. You spend one more night in Dien Bien Phu.
Day6: Dien Bien Phu – Hanoi or Laos.
Today, you can have 3 options:
1. You can fly from Dien Bien Phu to Hanoi.
2. I can take you to Tay Trang International Border Gate to follow Mekong river to Laos.
3. We can keep driving to Hanoi via Son La or Mai Chau.
