Detail itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau (L,D)
Leaving Hanoi at 7: 00 A.M, we head west to Mai Chau. Arriving at about midday we check into the White Thai Ethnic Minority Village. And then spend the afternoon relaxing and walking around village, meeting the people. You have dinner and overnight stayed in the silt house enjoying folk songs and dancing together and drinking from the bamboo tube.
Day 2: Mai Chau – Son La (B,L)
Departing in the morning we say farewell to our village friends and hit the road for Son La. Arriving in the mid afternoon we check into our hotel and have free time to relax or take a stroll around the town.
Son La is the site of an old French penal colony were anticolonial revolutionaries were jailed. Although much of it was destroyed by the American warplanes offloading their unused ammunition during the Vietnam American war, it has been partially restored and along with the little museum makes for interesting viewing. The surrounding area of Son La is home to several Montagnards, the White Thai, Meo, Muong and Black Thai people. A small display of their handcrafted wares can be seen in the local town market. You stay overnight at the hotel
Day 3: Son La – Dien Bien Phu (B,L)
After having breakfast, we head directly west towards Bien Bien Phu, one of the remotest parts of Vietnam. Passing by the villages of the ethnic minority people, the White Thai, Meo, Muog and the Black Thai
In the afternoon, we go to visit Dien Bien Phu battle field, headquarter of general Christian de Caterris, old French tanks and museum of Dien Bien Phu. Dinner and overnight in Dien Bien Phu.
Day 4: Dien Bien Phu – Sapa
Drive to Sapa. Lunch in Lai Chau. On the way visit some villages, take pictures. Have dinner yourself. Overnight in hotel in Sapa.
Day 5: Sapa trekking and home stay tour
Walk down through the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van. The trekking route offers some challenge as you balance on the rice terraces and a small trail on the steep mountainside. The vegetation is dense as the trail leads up to a peaceful village perched on the Hoang Lien mountainside, relax by a local stream for a picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at homestay at Ta Van village.
Day 6: Sapa – relaxing day – overnight train to Hanoi
Today, you have a free day at your leisure until being transferred to Lao cai for your overnight train to Hanoi.
