5 days the world’s largest cave discovery tour
5 Days, 4 nights
Hanoi – Dong Hoi – Phong Nha Cave, Ke Bang National Park – Son Doong Cave – Dong Hoi - Hanoi
Son Doong Cave locates in Son Trach Commune, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province and belongs to Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park. It was found by a local man named Khanh in 1991 and was recently discovered by British cavers in 2009. The name “Son Doong” means “mountain river cave”. It was created from 2 to 5 millions years ago by river water eroding away the limestone underneath the mountain where the limestone was weak, the ceiling collapsed creating huge skylight. It is more than 200 meters wide, 150 meters high and 30 kilometers long in total (according to British Cave Research Association) but they just discovered 9 kilometers. And now the the local government opens 2 kilometers for tourist discovery. Son Doong was classified the most beautiful cave in the Globe by BBC news.
To discover this cave, you can go by plane, train or car from Hanoi. It is about 600 kilometers from Hanoi to the South. It takes you about 35 minutes by plane, 12 hours by train and if your time permits you should go by car because along the way you can enjoy other activities such as: Trekking in Cuc Phuong National Park to visit and stay overnight at Khanh village, Thai and Muong tribal villages in Pu Luong Nature Reserve.
The followings I would like to suggest the most convenient option which goes by plane from Hanoi.
